Legislation confirming the EU’s Euro-5 and Euro-6 pollutant emissions standards from cars and vans was approved last month.

Euro-5 limits on microparticles, hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxides will apply from September 2009, with the Euro-6 NOx limits coming into force five years later. The standards were agreed last December; T&E was highly critical of the long timelag
before Euro-6 takes effect, especially compared to California’s much stricter diesel standards.
